Combative Kenjutsu

Combative Kenjutsu is a level of sparring above Sports Kenjutsu, where one must don protective armour (Bogu) and use a bamboo sword (Shinai) to spar with an opponent, allowing the practitioner to experience the rigours of combat with full armor. The bamboo sword and armour ensures the safety of the practitioner while its hardness allows for a variety of techniques the mimics an actual sword.

Combative Kenjutsu is free-flowing in nature, ultilising all techniques learnt in earlier modules with the realism of the weapon. Combative Kenjutsu sparring also includes close-quarters grappling techniques and take-downs for when the opponent is too close for the sword to be effective.
