Tameshigiri is the ultimate expression of skill that a practitioner obtains over the course of his journey in NihontoDo - the ability to draw the sword, cut down the target(s) and sheathe the blade in one harmonious, fluid and safe motion with unwavering focus and confidence.
Besides a good blade, Tameshigiri requires an immense familiarity with the katana and excellent technique, as the slightest error in judgement or lack in concentration can lead to an improper and messy cut, or in worse cases, self-injury. A good cut, on the other hand, instills a sense of self-confidence in the practitioner.
